Mrs. Joy - Classroom Spotlight

It is hard to believe that the third quarter has already come to an end!  Mrs. Joy's first grade classroom has been very busy this year.

We started off the year learning about the solar eclipse, making fun eclipse head bands to wear that day and watching it streamed live into our classroom.  Last fall, Mr. Nelson organized and we enjoyed Agriculture Day here at the grade school.  We learned about pigs, rabbits, and we even got to feed baby goats!  Another fall happening involved pharmacy students from the University of Illinois Chicago (including Mrs. Joy's daughter, Cassidy) .  The students came into the first grade classrooms and talked to us about the role a pharmacist plays in a rural community,  They also did activities teaching us about medication, poison, and we got to mix a pretend compound like a real pharmacist.  Thanks to the wonderful parent support, the first graders have enjoyed three awesome parties this year.  We dressed up for Halloween and enjoyed fun games and delicious snacks at all of our parties.  in February, Forreston Dental came into our classrooms and talked to us about dental health and brought great "goody bags" with tooth brushes, floss and tooth paste.  We even got to practice flossing using Lego blocks and Play-Doh.  We still have many fun things planned for the end of the year including our field trip and our embryology unit!  Please enjoy the slide show!
