Junior High Spelling Bee Winners
Forreston Junior High School held its annual spelling bee on Friday, January 17, 2020. Students, parents, and staff watched as the qualifiers from the Language Arts classes of Mrs. Griseta, Mrs. Leddy and Mrs. Snider, competed for the title of the top speller. Thirty-four students from sixth, seventh and eighth grades took part in the competition.
Devin Bratt and Danica Fong battled to earn first and second place honors respectively. Seventh-grader Devin is the son of Erin Sodergren of Baileyville. Danica, a sixth-grader, is the daughter of Colleen Miller of German Valley. After 14 total rounds and three rounds of head-to-head competition, Devin spelled the words ‘depot’ and ‘contaminated’ to earn the championship medal. Danica earned the runner-up spot after correctly spelling ‘periodically’ but misspelling ‘haughty’.
Devin will compete in the Lee/Ogle/Whiteside County Regional Spelling Bee held at Dixon High School on Thursday, February 20, 2020, at 10:00 am. Danica, as runner-up in the school bee, will be an alternate for the Regional Bee. Congratulations to all the students who competed in the bee, and good luck to Devin and Danica as they represent Forreston Jr/Sr. High School at the Regional Bee in Dixon.
