Course Description: The first grade literacy program is comprised of four main components: reading, writing, grammar, word study, and speaking/listening. First grade writing standards focus on the writing process as the primary tool to help children become independent writers. Sentences become a key focus of instruction and are able to write complete sentences using subjects and verbs, basic capitalization, and punctuation.
