Proud of Our Students Impact on Another Successful Community Service Day
Wednesday, May 7th, was all about giving back and having fun for Forreston Junior/Senior High School students during their annual Community Service Day. Students were out making a difference all over town! Students got their hands dirty planting colorful flowers downtown, and a group was at Warnken Park picking up garbage and brush. Others hit the streets to clean up trash around Forreston. Back at school, student athletes helped to maintain the baseball and softball diamonds, and there was a big effort to pick up trash and mulch the flower beds, making our school look great for upcoming events. Inside, students cleaned the high school and junior high gyms, along with helping to set up for the
band and chorus concerts. Art students were busy setting up for the Art Show. The 8th grade class took a trip to Sterling High School to participate in the annual “Career Quest” at
the Whiteside Area Career Center (WACC). Students learned about each of the 12 different career pathways that are offered to juniors and seniors in high school. Current WACC students presented information to the 8th graders and provided hands-on experiences as well. Meanwhile, the littlest learners had a blast with Mrs. Parks and the FFA during Tractor Day. Preschool and kindergarteners got to climb into real tractors and learn all about them. Mr. Heinz even read them some fun books about tractors and farming. Later in the day, all students in grades 6th- 12th joined Mrs. Parks and the FFA for some fun Ag Olympics. This Community Service day at Forreston Junior/Senior High School is all about students stepping up, exploring new things, and making their community a better place. All high school students are required to complete community service hours as part of their graduation requirement. If you wish to share opportunities for students to serve in your organization, please contact the Forreston Jr/Sr High School at 815-938-2175 or send information to Mrs. Bergin at cbergin@fvdistrict221.org.
