Coach Janicke Announced as New Head Football Coach
On Wednesday, June 23rd, the hiring of Keynon Janicke, as the FHS Varsity Head Football Coach, was formally approved after the stepping down of former head coach and AP/AD Kyle Zick. Coach Zick will remain on staff as an assistant coach.
Coach Janicke is an alum of Forreston (’12 graduate) and started teaching in Forreston in 2016 after graduating from University of Dubuque. He has been an integral part of the Forreston Football staff since ’16, including head coach of our Junior High Football team, head coach of our JV team, and served as a Varsity Coordinator this past spring. Coach Janicke has also coached wrestling, track, and softball for Forreston, along with his teaching responsibilities at Forreston Jr/Sr High School.
Forreston Assistant Principal/Athletic Director & former Head Football Coach Kyle Zick said, “Coach Janicke has been doing a lot of the work of a head coach without the title for a while now. I look forward to coaching with him this year in his new role as head coach. He is the exact person we need to continue the strong tradition of success on and off the field for Forreston Football.”
Superintendent Sheri Smith commented, “We are grateful that Coach Janicke is willing to step into the head coaching role. We know the time and sacrifices that are needed to run a quality program and we appreciate Coach Janicke’s willingness which to lead our young men”.
Janicke will take over a strong football program that has made the playoffs the last 10 seasons including 3 state titles in 1A in 2014, 2016, & 2018. The Cardinals start this year against Stockton at home on Friday, August 27th.
